Actor R. Madhavan’s ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect’ will be releasing in cinemas soon. The movie received thunderous standing ovation when it was screened at Cannes. With ‘Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, R. Madhavan is also making his directorial debut. However, Madhavan confesses that he finds the process of directing “very exhausting”.
Madhavan has written, directed and acted in the movie but the ‘3 Idiots’ actor said that for now he would rather focus on acting. He said that his wife, Sarita, as well wanted him to do the same.
In the movie, Madhavan plays the titular role of Nambi Narayanan, the former scientist and aerospace designer of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation). Nambi Narayanan was known for his work on the development of efficient liquid fuelled engines.
The movie will release in theatres on July 1, 2022 and Madhavan has been busy with promotions for it. Recently the actor was in Chennai to promote his movie, which will see a release in multiple languages, – Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and English.
As reported by HT, Madhavan was asked if he had any plans of directing again and he said that he did not.
Madhavan said, “I don’t think I have it in me to direct again. It’s an exhausting process and I have no immediate plans as such to direct. Even with Rocketry, since the original director attached with the film had to exit the project due to his prior commitments, I took up the mantle as I didn’t have time to approach anyone else. Mr. Nambi believed in me and he pushed me to take up the job and I thought it was my duty to do it.”
He added that his wife, Sarita also felt that it would be better if he focused on acting. “My wife wants me to focus on acting for now. I’m no Mani Ratnam to confidently make films in different genres. I don’t think I can do it. If I have to direct again, then a story should really move me,” he said.
The Tamil version of the movie features a cameo by actor Suriya and the Hindi version features a cameo by Shahrukh Khan. Speaking about it, Madhavan said, “When I told Suriya that Shah Rukh ji is doing a small role in the Hindi version and that I wanted him to play the same role for the Tamil version, he immediately said he’d do it. When it came to shooting, Suriya flew down to Mumbai’s Mehboob studio with his staff and shot for the scene. He booked his own flight tickets and didn’t even charge a penny for his work.”
