Rachel Zegler made an impressive debut in her breakthrough role in ‘West Side Story’, helmed by Steven Spielberg.
As per latest report, Zegler has now been roped in to star in the upcoming ‘Hunger Games’ prequel planned at Lionsgate. The movie titled, ‘The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes’ features two main characters – Lucy Gray Baird and a young Coriolanus Snow.
Reportedly, Rachel Zegler has been cast to play the role of Lucy Gray Baird for the prequel movie. ‘The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes’ is an extension of the ‘Hunger Games’ movies and is set decades before the events of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen’s adventures.
In the movies, Katniss played in the 74th Hunger Games, Lucy Gray Baird is said to be a part of the 10th Hunger Games.
The ‘Hunger Games’ $3 billion movie franchise has been adapted from author Suzanne Collins books and the prequel is based on the 2020 novel of the same author titled, ‘The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes’.
In the movie, Lucy Gray Baird, who happens to be a tribute from District 12 sings during an important moment of the reaping ceremony.
In the prequel Rachel Zegler, who will essay the role of Lucy Gray Baird has been paired opposite actor Tom Blyth who has been roped in to play a young 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow.
In the ‘Hunger Games’ movie franchise, the role of the old, totalitarian leader Snow has been played by actor Donald Sutherland.
Producer Nina Jacobs spoke about the casting of Rachel Zegler in the movie and said, “Our casting team, Deb Zane and Dylan Jury, spearheaded an exhaustive search, reading hundreds of actors in search of our perfect Lucy Gray. That search ended when Rachel Zegler blew the roof off with her depth and breadth of talent as an actor, singer, and performer. Rachel is utterly compelling; just like Lucy Gray, her voice and charisma command the stage while her inner strength and humanity transform those around her.”
The movie is slated to release on November 17, 2023.
