Rajesh Kumar: “I enjoy comedy but I want to explore other genres”

Television actor Rajesh Kumar is prolific in the world of comedy. He was last seen in ‘Excuse Me Madam’ and he is currently in London shooting for a short film.

Rajesh Kumar, has, though, stayed away from television for almost two years now. In a chat with TOI, the actor explains why he hasn’t taken up more work.

He said, “There is no dearth of work but the offers should be exciting. Also, I have been doing comedy for many years now and I want to explore different genres. It’s time I play a negative character now. I enjoy comedy but the makers should understand that I am capable of doing other roles too.”

The 47-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Rosesh Sarabhai in the iconic TV sitcom, ‘Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai’ shared how the cast of the show had caught up with each other a few months back.

When he is asked if the show will make a comeback, he said, “We are all hoping to come back together and act in a new season of the show but our two main actors Rupali Ganguly and Sumeet Raghavan are both busy in their daily shows. It is not easy for them to give time to a new show right now. We also had another talented actor Ratnaji (Ratna Pathak Shah) and she is also keeping very busy. So, that leaves us with Satish Shah and me, so it is not easy to get all actors together. But hopefully, something will work out soon.”

Rajesh, though, was quick to add how happy he was about the success of his Sarabhai co-stars. He said, “I am impressed that Rupali is part of a show (Anupamaa) that has been going on for more than a year now; otherwise, it is not easy to keep a daily show exciting for more than a year. Similarly, in Wagle Ki Duniya, Sumeet is doing his best. Both of them have matured as actors over the years.”
