S.Korea reports 465 more Covid-19 cases, 94,198 in total

South Korea reported 465 more cases of Covid-19 as of midnight Wednesday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 94,198.

The daily caseload was slightly down from 470 on the previous day, staying above 400 for three straight days, the Xinhua news agency reported.

The daily number of infections hovered above 100 since November 8 owing to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

Of the new cases, 137 were Seoul residents and 178 were people residing in Gyeonggi province.

Twenty-one cases were imported from overseas, lifting the combined figure to 7,246.

Four more deaths were confirmed, leaving the death toll at 1,652. The total fatality rate stood at 1.75 per cent.

A total of 363 more patients were discharged from quarantine after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 84,675. The total recovery rate was 89.89 per cent.

The country tested more than 6.97 million people, among whom 6,814,539 tested negative for the virus and 68,248 are being checked.

Since the mass vaccination was launched on February 26, the country administered the first shot of Covid-19 vaccines to a total of 500,635 people.
