Saira Banu is a recluse after the loss of husband Dilip Kumar

There are some alarming reports coming through about yesteryear actress Saira Banu’s mental and physical health following the demise of her husband, the legendary veteran super star actor Dilip Kumar.

Close friends of Saira Banu state that the actress does not leave her house, and she refuses to meet with anyone.

Popular yesteryear actress Mumtaz, who was visiting Mumbai, dropped in unannounced at Saira Banu’s house in Pali Hill, Mumbai, but she too had to return disappointed.

As reported by Bollywood Hungama, Mumtaz said, It’s so sad. Sairaji seems to be have gone into a shell after Yusuf Saab’s sad passing away. I made many attempts to contact her. When I could not reach her, I dropped in at her home. But I couldn’t meet her I feel really said. I remember the last time I met them both at their bungalow. Sairaji was so gracious. She had made really delicious cookies and cakes for me.”

Mumtaz has worked with Saira Banu in ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’. She has also worked with the late Dilip Kumar in ‘Ram Aur Shyam’.

Veteran actor Dharmendra, who was co-star to both Mumtaz and Saira Banu in ‘Aadmi Aur Insaan’ also expressed his worry over Saira Banu’s isolation. He said, “I made many attempts to reach her. She does not answer calls. I was very close to Dilip Saab, and to Saira. I do not want to intrude on her privacy. I only hope she is in good health.”

Actor Shatrughan Sinha, when quizzed about Saira Banu responded, “Kaisi hai Sairaji? Yeh sawaal toh main aapse puchna chahta hoon. (“How is Sairaji? This question I was about to ask you – the media”) After Dilip Saab, she has gone into a shell. We all lost the greatest actor. But she lost much more. I want her to know my wife and I are there for her if she needs us.”

Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar tied the knot in 1966. Their love story was legendary in Bollywood and the two were known to be completely in love with each other. Since their marriage the two were rarely spotted in public without each other.

When they got married, Dilip Kumar was 44 years old, while Saira Banu was only 22. Despite their 22-year age gap, the couple had a rock-solid marriage that lasted 55 years.

Many years ago, Saira Banu had mentioned in an interview that in her life there was only ‘Saab’ (that’s how she called Dilip Kumar). She confessed that she was in love with him since her teenage was sure she only wanted to marry him.

She also added that she felt really lucky when he chose her to get married and even though he encouraged her to continue working after marriage, she didn’t want to as she wanted to only take care of him.

The couple had no children but Saira Banu had said in the past that she never missed having children because her life was so full just being with Saab (Dilip Kumar).

The late Dilip Kumar passed away on July 7, 2021. He was 98 years old.
