Former actress Saira Banu seek people’s prayers for speed recovery of her husband, veteran Indian actor Dilip Kumar, now in hospital.
His 94th birthday falls on Sunday.
Saira Banu said: “He is resting and we need your ‘dua’ (prayers) for him to recoup well and all should be fine by his birthday. Please pray for his quick and safe recovery.”
Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha, who celebrated his birthday two days ahead of Dilip Kumar, said: “This country’s most talented and enduring thespian is fast recovering at Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre. We want him to be healthy and happy. He is a national treasure.”
Actor Dharmendra said: “Dilip Saab is the reason I became an actor. We all look up to him and try to be like him. I am praying for him to recover quickly.”
Dilip Kumar was admitted to Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre here on Wednesday after swelling in one of his legs.
Dilip Kumar and Saira Banu married despite an age gap of 22 years, in 1966. Dilip Kumar was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. In 1997, the government of Pakistan also honoured him with its highest civilian honour, the Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
Bollywood celebrities including Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor have wished veteran actor Dilip Kumar a year full of good health and happiness.
The actor, who made his acting debut in Jwar Bhata in 1944, was born as Muhammad Yusuf Khan. He later adopted the screen name Dilip Kumar. He was last seen on the big screen in Qila in 1998.
He was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
