Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar starrer ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ has reportedly been banned from screening in theatres in Kuwait and Oman.
As per reliable sources close to the film, the movie has been banned from theatrical screening in these two countries although the reason behind the ban is yet to be revealed.
While several sources claim that the movie has been banned, official confirmation from the makers of ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ is awaited as yet.
‘Samrat Prithviraj’, which is set to release in cinemas on June 3, 2022 is a historical period drama that narrates the life and achievements of the valiant emperor warrior of 12th century India, Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan.
The titular role of Prithviraj Chauhan has been played by Akshay Kumar while former Miss World Manushi Chhillar makes her Bollywood debut in this, essaying the role of Princess Sanyogita, Prithviraj Chauhan’s love interest in the movie.
The movie has been written and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, who is best known for his epic TV show in the 90s – ‘Chanakya’.
The movie was earlier titled only ‘Prithviraj’ but pressure from a group called the Karni Sena forced the producers (Yash Raj Films) to change the title of the movie to ‘Samrat Prithviraj’.
Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chhillar are on a whirlwind promotional tour for the movie and on Wednesday, June 1, they were in Delhi at Prithviraj Chauhan’s fort – Qila Raj Pithora, which was a centre point way back in 12th century during Prithviraj’s reign.
Akshay Kumar spoke about the character he is playing and said, “What he did and how he did… I was surprised after getting to know his life story. You will not believe he used to talk about women empowerment in that era. This is a film for our children, and future generations.”
