The biggest international celebration of Indian cinema is all set to take place in Abu Dhabi. The 22nd edition of the IIFA awards will take place at the Etihad Arena, which is part of the Yas Bay Waterfront in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The awards are being conducted in collaboration with DCT Abu Dhabi (Department of Culture and Tourism) and Miral, which is Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive experiences and destinations.
The IIFA were originally scheduled to take place in the third week of May. This got postponed to July following the demise of the President of UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
However, a couple of days after announcing that the awards have been postponed to July, the IIFA committee sent out another memo, this time stating that the awards have been pulled forward and will now be conducted in early June.
The IIFA awards will now be held on June 2, 3 and 4, 2022. The latest addition to join the line-up of celebrity performers at the event is Shahid Kapoor.
Over the last few years Shahid Kapoor has mesmerised his audience with his stellar acting performances and so many may have forgotten that Shahid Kapoor is in fact a fantastic dancer as well.
In fact, he trained from noted choreographer and dancer, Shiamak Davar’s Institute and even before he made his acting debut, Shahid appeared in the movie ‘Taal’ starring Aishwarya as one of the backup dancers.
Speaking about performing at the IIFA, Shahid said, “IIFA has always been close to my heart and this year I am excited to recreate and make new memories at the 22nd Edition OF IIFA Weekend and Awards in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. I look forward to my performance at IIFA Awards night and what better venue than the spectacular state-of-the-art indoor entertainment venue, Etihad Arena.”
IIFA awards tends to be held at different international locations each year and the venue chosen for 2022 is Abu Dhabi. Abi Dhabi, has in the last few years emerged as an attractive hub for movie makers. DCT Abu Dhabi has been working on boosting the desirability of Abu Dhabi as the preferred destination to build sets and make movies. In the past movies like ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, ‘Heropanti 2’ and more have been shot in recreated state of the art sets in Abu Dhabi.
IIFA is another natural step in cementing this creative collaboration between the two countries.
