So-called designated driver charged with impaired driving

A Brampton man who told police he was the designated driver for his two drunk friends was found to be just as drunk. Sharanjit Singh Lal, 24, faces one charge of impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.
Police said officers from the Caledon OPP detachment were called to the area of Allan Drive and Queen Street by someone reporting a possible impaired driver leaving a bar just after 11 p.m. Sunday.
The vehicle with three people inside was stopped on Highway 50, the driver identified himself as “the designated driver” of the group and failed the breathalyzer test after which he was arrested and charged.
This should serve as a lesson for all those tipplers going out drinking to ensure that their designated driver isn’t drinking and if he or she is, it would be safer and wiser to call a cab rather than risk being pulled over or worse still get into an unfortunate accident.
