‘Stranger Things 4’ breaks ‘Bridgerton’ viewership record on Netflix – 286.79 million hours

The newly premiered season of ‘Stranger Things’ has surpassed Shondaland’s massively popular regency era romance drama ‘Bridgerton’ in terms of viewership records.

As reported by Netflix, ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 has witnessed a viewership record of 286.79 million hours all over the world within the opening weekend itself.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, ‘Stranger Things’ surpassed the previous record holder, ‘Bridgerton’ Season 2, which recorded a viewership of 193 million viewers in its premiere opening weekend in March 2022.

Over the course of 28 days, ‘Bridgerton 2’ went on to claim Netflix’s most watched English language series’ ever title with a whopping viewership of 656.26 million hours the world over.

‘Stranger Things 4’ is nearly 44 percent of the way to ‘Bridgerton’s’ tally after three days of its premiere.

The final two episodes of the fourth season (which have a run time of nearly four hours in total) are yet to be released and these will stream on Netflix only in July 2022.

The new season of ‘Stranger Things’ is breaking all kinds of records. This season also lifted the viewership of the previous season in the last week before its release.

Each of the three seasons of ‘Stranger Things’ hit the ‘Top 10’ most watched show list in the previous week and combined they clocked nearly 84.55 million hours of viewership in the week between May 21-27.

This is also the first season of ‘Stranger Things’ to hit the number one spot in 83 countries, which sets another weekend premiere record. Season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’ hit the Top 10 spot across all the 93 countries whose viewership is being tracked by Netflix in real time.

This is Netflix’s tweet sharing the success of ‘Stranger Things 4’:

However, the number one record of viewership in million hours is still held by South Korean dystopian thriller Squid Game which, within the first 28 days of its release, clocked 1.65 million hours viewership worldwide.
