Sushant Singh Rajput case: In 2 years of investigation no foul play found yet

Yesterday, June 14, 2022, marked two years since the shocking demise of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In 2020, the actor was found hanging from the ceiling at his Bandra residence.

While the initial report by police said that the actor died by apparent suicide, Sushant Singh Rajput’s family was not convinced and requested that the matter be further investigated.

Despite the early reports by Mumbai Police which stated that there was no indication of foul play and that it was death by suicide, at the behest of Sushant’s family the investigation was handed over to the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) in August 2020.

It has been 22 months since the CBI took over the investigation and they are yet to establish the cause of the demise of the actor. The CBI has not yet filed a charge sheet, despite so many months of investigation.

The officers who have been investigating the case have stayed quiet and refuse to comment on the status of their investigation and only state that they are still exploring every possible angle. As per reports, there has been no change in the status of the case.

In their 22-month long ongoing investigation, the CBI has interrogated several witnesses, finely combed through Sushant’s social media accounts and also looked closely into the late actor’s psychiatric evaluation and overall state of mind around the time of his death.

In September 2020, a few months after his demise, the medica board of AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) sent out a report where they concluded that the actor’s death was by suicide. In medical speak, it stated that the cause of death was “asphyxia due to hanging”. The report further stated that there were no visible marks of injury or struggle on the actor’s body and his clothing too looked undisturbed.

But Sushant’s family was not satisfied and said that the results from AIIMS were faulty. Back in December 2020, while commenting on the case, the CBI had stated, “During the investigation, advanced mobile forensic equipment including the latest software has been used for extraction and analysis of relevant data available in the digital devices and also for analysis of dump data of the relevant cell tower locations related to the case.”

Sushant’s family, his close friends, his doctors, his girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her family and anyone from the industry whom Sushant associated with was questioned by the CBI. Meanwhile the ED (Enforcement Directorate) and the NCB (Narcotics Control Bureau) also started their investigations in finance and drug related matters post the actor’s death. The NCB even pressed charges against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea and her brother Showik. Rhea Chakraborty spent a month in judicial custody and her brother was only let go on bail after he spent two months in jail.
