Suspicious fire engulfs part of Malton Adventure Playground

A suspicious fire has saddened residents who were beginning to really enjoy the Malton Adventure Playground located at 3430 Derry Road East. Now the fire has rendered it unusable for the foreseeable future.

The fire broke out at 2:30 a.m., early Monday morning and the blaze was put out leaving $70,000 in damage and a beautiful structure badly charred.

This playground was modelled after the one in High Park. It consists of 15-foot castles made of all-natural pine. There are beautifully sculptured images of animals and dragons.

A theory going around is that the fire was likely started by someone sheltering in the structure and attempting to keep warm.

A duffel bag and brief case was found on the playground when emergency crews responded.

Anyone with information can call police at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133. -CINEWS
