Sylvester Stallone calls out ‘Rocky’ producer for withholding financial stake of franchise

Hollywood legend, the ‘Rocky’ actor Sylvester Stallone has claimed that Irvin Winkler, the producer of the ‘Rocky’ movies as well as its sequel series, ‘Creed’ is holding back a substantial financial stake of the franchise from him.

76-year-old Stallone took to his Instagram on Sunday, July 17 and shared a portrait of Winkler where he looks like knife-tongued serpent.

As per Variety, this image came with a caption which read, “A very flattering portrait of the great ‘Rocky’/’Creed’ producer, Irwin Winkler, from one of the country’s greatest. After Irwin controlling ‘Rocky’ for over 47 years, and now ‘Creed’, I really would like to have at least a little (of) WHAT’S LEFT of my rights back, before passing it on to ONLY YOUR CHILDREN, I believe that would be a fair gesture from this 93-year-old gentleman?”

Variety also states that Stallone has received first-dollar gross on the early sequels of ‘Rocky’ and he even earned from the net profits of the 1976 original movie. The movie cost a little over $1 million to make and grossed over $225 million worldwide.  However, the actor still maintains that he has been deprived of his fair share of equity stake in the ‘Rocky’ franchise.

Stallone’s Instagram note concluded by saying, “This is a painful subject that eats at my soul because I wanted to leave something of Rocky for my children, but it’s always great hearing from the loyal fans, Keep punching.”

A while earlier, Variety had reported that Winkler for his part was surprised to hear that Stallone was unhappy with his stake in the ‘Rocky’ franchise. Winkler pointed out that Stallone has earned millions of dollars through profit participation and fees.

As per a source, Stallone made more than $10 million on ‘Creed’ and its sequel that released in 2018. Sylvester Stallone both starred and produced both those projects.

The original ‘Rocky’ movie of 1976 was conceived, written as well as starred by Sylvester Stallone. He earned Academy Award nominations for best actor as well as best original screenplay and ‘Rocky’ home the Oscars for best picture, best director as well as best editing.
