‘The Chosen One’: Production alleged to be responsible for 2 actors’ death in car crash

Two actors from the popular Portuguese series, ‘The Chosen One’ – Juan Francisco Gonzalez Aguilar and Raymundo Garduno Cruz passed away in a car crash in Mexico last Thursday, June 16, 2022.

Now, friends of the actors are asking that a thorough investigation be conducted to inspect possible production issues that could have contributed to tragic accident.

The two actors were part of crew of the series, ‘The Chosen One’ and they were riding with four other crew members en route to a local airport in Santa Rosalia. Allegedly on their way their van crashed and flipped which left the two actors dead and the other four crew members injured.

However, the surviving members are believed to be recovering well and are now in a good condition.

Screenwriter Rick Zazueta posted a length note where claimed that the cast had complained about logistical issues they faced during the production of the series.

Zazueta wrote, “This is a plea for justice for these deaths. This was no ordinary accident, the cast had been complaining openly about the logistical and transport issues faced in this production, calling it illogical, unreasonable, ignorant, and stupid. The conditions of the van were completely unfit for the purpose of transporting people; worn-out tires, noisy brakes, loose steering wheel, not all seat belts worked, easily identifiable signs of danger. But the show must go on, and the actors get wrapped up in the artform and want to work, and don’t get as many opportunities to work, so they take these gigs with big dreams and the promise of a small pay check.”

Liliana Conlisk Gallegos, who was a friend of Aguilar (also called Paco Mufote) also shared her outrage over the incident. She said, “Paco touched the hearts of everyone he ever met, he was a great actor with a strong trajectory. He loved acting and playing music more than anything in the world and he dedicated himself to it, many times suffering economic hardship. He sacrificed for his love of acting.”

She further added, “It fills me with rage that there are reports of abuse and exploitation being shared by people involved with the production. I would like to demand that this is further investigated. If nothing wrong was going on, then there shouldn’t be an issue with providing the information.”

Gonzalez Aguilar’s family held a private funeral for the actor in Tijuana on Sunday, June 26. It was only 11 days since the actor celebrated his 47th birthday and he actually celebrated the big day on the sets of ‘The Chosen One’ and even shared happy moments of the celebration on his social media.
