‘The Kashmir Files’ is now fourth highest weekend grosser post pandemic; beats ‘Pushpa: The Rise’

Vivek Agnihotri’s directorial ‘The Kashmir Files’ had a limited release when it opened on Friday, March 11, 2022. It collected Rs. 3.55 Cr on the opening day. It saw an increase of more than hundred percent and raked in Rs. 8.50 Cr on the second day.

As it stands, the movie is continuing to become more popular. Not a small feat considering that it had limited publicity pre-release, legal battles to endure and it opened on a non-holiday weekend. It also had to compete with Prabhas’s period fantasy drama, ‘Radhe Shyam’ which also released on the same day. Considering all that ‘The Kashmir Files’ revenue trajectory is on the rise.

Based on the positive feedback from people who watched it on the opening day, the show saw more footfalls on day 2. ‘The Kashmir Files’ now stands as the fourth highest weekend opening gross post pandemic.

It beat Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, that collected Rs 12.68 crore. ‘The Kashmir Files’ is far behind movies like ‘Sooryavanshi’, which made Rs. 77.08 crores or ‘83’ which collected Rs. 47 crore  or even ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’, which made Rs. 39.12 crores business in the opening weekend. However, the makers of the film have much to cheer for. Because of the rising popularity of the movie, on the third day of its release, the theater chains opened more shows for the movie and from 650 screens showing the first two days, ‘The Kashmir Files’ got a jump of 2000 screens in total, with some theaters offering shows as early as 6.30 AM.

The increase in the number of screens translated into an additional Rs. 15.10 crore revenue. The response to the movie has been phenomenal and even though it has courted controversy for a while now, the subject matter of the movie is pulling audiences to theaters.

‘The Kashmir Files’ is far ahead of other releases like ‘Badhai Do’ which had an opening weekend revenue of Rs. 7.82 crore and Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Jhund’ which collected Rs. 5.85 crores in the opening weekend.

Given the positive trend so far, we can expect ‘The Kashmir Files’ to make far more revenue at the box-office. As it stands, ‘The Kashmir Files’ can be classified as a hit.
