Vivek Agnihotri’s intense drama – ‘The Kashmir Files’ was all set to release today. But it looks like right at the last minute; the movie has hit a roadblock.
Just hours before it could be released, Shalini Khanna, who is wife of Squadron leader Ravi Khanna, approached the court requesting a ‘Stay’ order on the release of the movie. She claims that the movie portrays her husband in the wrong light and the facts as shown in the movie with regards to her husband are incorrect.
Shalini Khanna had watched the movie at its special premiere on March 4. Shalini further said that right after the movie she approached the film makers, but they did not take her objections seriously. She tried getting in touch in the days following the premiere, but the makers did not respond and so she had no alternative but to take the legal route.
‘The Kashmir Files’ is based on the true story of the atrocities faced by Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s.
The court order reads, “Suit for mandatory injunction directing the defendants to immediately remove and delete the scene and incorrect facts displayed/shown vis-a-vis the husband of the plaintiff, namely Martyr Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, in the Movie and the trailer of the movie The Kashmir Files, set to be released on March 11, 2022, which is absolutely and entirely unrelated and non-identical to the actual facts occurred as mentioned in the suit by the plaintiff; or in the alternate to amend/alter the scene and the incorrect facts vis-a-vis the husband of the plaintiff namely Martyr Squadron Leader Sh. Ravi Khanna in the movie The Kashmir Files in accordance to the actual and true, occurred on the incidence i.e. on January 25, 1990, whereby the husband of the plaintiff was martyred.”
The court order further stated that this injunction could a permanent prohibitory order if the scenes depicting Ravi Khanna are not amended or deleted and that the incorrect facts displayed in the movie regarding Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna who was martyred in the incident depicted in the movie.
‘The Kashmir Files’ features Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumar and Mithun Chakraborty among others. It is said to be a gripping tale of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits during Kashmir’s insurgency in the 90s.
