‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’ received a massive opening. In a never-seen-before trend, the movie opened to advance booking on April 8, 2022, 28 days before it’s theatrical release.
The excitement and anticipation for the movie was quite massive and so many of the opening weekend shows were sold out weeks before the movie released.
The experiment of an early advance booking window proved successful and bolstered by this success other Hollywood studios too want to take the same route.
And so, on May 5, Visacom18 Studios have opened up advance booking for Tom Cruise starrer, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. The movie releases towards the end of May and with the advance booking window open, viewers can book their tickets 20 days before the release of the movie.
Also, in latest developments, it now seems like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ will release a day earlier. A source reportedly told Bollywood Hungama, “Earlier, Top Gun: Maverick was supposed to be out in cinemas on Friday, May 27. However, it’ll now have a full-day release from May 26. And that’s not all. It’ll also have paid previews, in IMAX screens, on Wednesday, May 25, post 6:00 pm.”
Likewise, the advance bookings for Chris Pratt starrer, ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ opened on May 8, which is more than a month before the movie’s theatrical release, which is scheduled for June 10, 2022.
The source added, “The bookings of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness had initially started only in PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis properties. In the case of Jurassic World: Dominion, every cinema hall is welcome to start selling tickets.”
Speaking about ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’, the source further said, “Nearly 200 screens in India have begun the advance booking of Jurassic World: Dominion. The number is expected to increase with each passing day.”
Jurassic World: Dominion will release in cinemas on June 10 and the paid previews of the movie will air from 4 PM on June 9, 2022.
An industry expert weighed in on the much earlier advance booking trend and for the ‘Top Gun’ sequel, said, “Not every film will have house full shows 3-4 prior to the release, as it happened in the case with Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to Top Gun (1986), which was released 36 years ago. Hence, it’ll have slow advances. However, many youngsters have seen the original as it’s considered to be a classic. Moreover, it stars Tom Cruise, who has a large fan following in India. So, it won’t be a surprise if Top Gun: Maverick’s advance picks up.”
The industry expert though was confident that ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ will be more popular. The first two movies – ‘Jurassic World’, which released in 2015, and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ both earned well in the Indian subcontinent and as per the expert, the Jurassic World franchise has a good fan following – for English as well as the dubbed versions of the movie. So, the expert feels that the bookings will pick up a good pace close to the release of the movie.
