U-Pass program gets green light at Sheridan College

To the relief of hundreds of students, Sheridan College students voted in favour of a pass that will allow them unlimited rides on Mississauga, Brampton and Oakville’s public transit systems.

Full-time students at the college were asked to vote on the Universal Transit Pass (U-Pass) program in a referendum held near the end of November.

With a U-Pass, students can now travel along routes offered by Oakville Transit, Brampton Transit and MiWay as many times as required. The program kicks off in September 2019.

All Sheridan full-time students will be charged a non-refundable fee of $197.15 each semester for the pass. By comparison, an adult PRESTO monthly pass costs $125 for Oakville Transit, $124 for Brampton Transit and $130 for MiWay.

The University of Toronto Mississauga has had a U-Pass in place since 2007, although it’s only for MiWay routes.

It is hoped that those who currently rely or prefer traveling by their own vehicles will get on public transit and in the process save a whole lot of money. -CINEWS
