Beginning September 6, recharging your electric vehicle at Region of Peel owned and operated charging stations in Mississauga and Brampton will no longer be free.
Spokesperson Genevieve Ricciardella says implementing a user fee will help the region recover a portion of the annual operating costs which are currently estimated at $43,000.
The Region of Peel currently owns and operates 16 electric vehicle charging stations at 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga and 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton that are open for public use, including two Level 3 DC Fast Chargers.
So what’s it going to cost you? It’s $1.00 an hour ($0.0167/minute) for level two chargers and $7.80 an hour ($0.130/minute) for faster level three chargers.
These fees are aligned with Peel Region’s average residential electricity rates to promote continued electric vehicle uptake and charging station use.
The Region is hopeful that the fee will help mitigate the continuing challenge of drivers remaining plugged-in for extended durations even after their battery has fully charged.
User fees will also help support the transition to a zero emissions vehicle future in Peel, the Region said in a media release.
