Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan is busy promoting his upcoming movie, ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’. During the course of his promotions, he has had several interactions with media where he was also asked about the current Bollywood slump at the box office and how South movies seem to be doing much better than Hindi films.
During a recent media interaction, Varun was asked about the three South movies that outperformed Hindi movies – ‘RRR’, ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’.
Weighing in on the North vs. South debate, Varun Dhawan said, “Cinema is doing well right now. The audience has the right to watch the cinema they want to watch. Hollywood films have been working for so many years. It is because they are liking it and, therefore, they are watching it. I myself enjoyed watching KGF 2. I had a great time watching it. It is one of the biggest grossers right now.”
When he was asked how Bollywood movies and several of them in the last couple of months have failed in terms of box office numbers whereas movies from down South have managed to rake in several hundred crores, Varun said, “7-8 major flops have happened in their cinema also. That has also happened because nothing was released in the last 2 and a half years. I feel a good film will come. In the Hindi film industry, we have a lot of good films coming up. Every film can’t be a hit. The audience won’t watch a bad film, whether it is English, Hindi or a South film. They will not watch.”
On the work front, Varun will soon be seen along with Kiara Advani, Maniesh Paul, Neetu Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Prajakta Koli in Dharma Productions’ ‘Jug Jugg Jeeyo’, which releases in theatres on June 24, 2022. Besides this he will also be seen in ‘Bhediya’ along with Kriti Sanon and ‘Bawaal’ along with Janhvi Kapoor.
