Mississauga (Jan 15) – A news report has revealed that Mississauga Ward 7 Councillor Dipika Damerla has decided to throw her hat in the ring for the city’s top job.
The Mississauga News said the Damerla will join Ward 5 Councillor Carolyn Parrish and Ward 1 Councillor Stephen Dasko who previously announced their intention to run for the office of Mississauga mayor left vacant by the now Ontario Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie.
Political strategiest Aleem Kanji told the publication that he will be working on Damerla’s campaign team.
“A new generation of experience, is how the campaign is being framed,” he told The Mississauga News.
Dipika Damerla was elected to the Mississauga city council, representing Ward 7, in 2018. She’s spent seven years representing the residents of Mississauga East-Cooksville as their Member of Provincial Parliament and also as Ontario’s Associate Minister of Health & Long Term Care and Minister of Seniors Affairs.
Prior to entering politics, Dipika worked in corporate banking and ran a successful small business in Mississauga, her biography says. She holds an MBA in Finance from the Rotman School of Management.
