Ignoring repeated pleas by green activists and sportspersons, Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), a statutory authority of Indian Railways, has decided to lease out a huge chunk of its vacant land in the heart of the city to the highest bidder.
The vast tract of unused land, close to the university, and the Agra Fort, was once the centre of hectic commercial activities, as Gadha Pada Belanganj malgodam, where goods trains from all over India brought commodities, raw materials and ferried finished goods to east, west and south India.
This facility has now shifted to Yamuna Bridge railway station. After the closure of the metre gauge line, this railway siding had been reduced to a vast wasteland. The local environmentalists had demanded development of a city forest in this area. Some sports fans had suggested construction of a stadium, but the railways wanted to make some extra profit, and have decided to lease out the land to builders.
The RLDA has invited bids for Residential Development on a Railway land measuring 90,304 Sqm. at Belanganj, Agra. The Proposed land parcel will be leased out for 99 years. The reserved price of the land is Rs 213.80 crore. The online pre-bid meeting was held on June 19. Many Local and National Level Developers attended the Pre-bid meeting and their queries were answered. The last date of submission of e-Bid is August 3.
Belanganj Railway land parcel located in the heart of Agra City having excellent connectivity by road, is situated in close proximity to Taj Mahal & Agra Fort. To its North lies the bustling 15m wide Motilal Nehru Road, providing convenient access to the land parcel.
On the eastern side, the arterial road ensures seamless connectivity and facilitates smooth traffic flow. To the south, a residential colony adds a touch of tranquility to the surroundings, offering a peaceful environment for residential development. Finally, the western side is flanked by a 6-meter-wide arterial road, serving as a thoroughfare and enhancing accessibility. With its strategic location and excellent connectivity, this land parcel promises great avenues for mixed-use development.
Vice Chairman, RLDA Ved Parkash Dudeja said: “In the heart of Agra, Uttar Pradesh, lies Belanganj – a neighborhood steeped in history and brimming with cultural treasures.
