Toronto (Jan 26) – Red Tape Reduction Minister Parm Gill is leaving provincial politics to join Pierre Poilievre’s federal Conservative team.

Gill resigned from his seat on Thursday saying that community members have urged him to represent Milton at the federal level.

The former MPP who has represented Milton since 2018 is not new to federal politics. Gill was federal MP for Brampton-Springdale from 2011 to 2015.

“I am motivated to continue to fight for the constituents of Milton by joining Pierre Poilievre’s common sense Conservative team in their efforts to defeat Justin Trudeau’s Liberal-NDP costly coalition,” CBC quoted him as saying in a statement. He added that he’s seen “firsthand” Poilievre’s commitment to “making our country better.”

In a written statement to CBC Toronto, Caitlin Clark, a spokesperson for Ford, thanked Gill for his service “as a valued member of our caucus”.

On the provincial level, Gill served as Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism from 2021 to 2022, before becoming the Minister of Red Tape Reduction.

“This is clearly another sign that Ford’s team is abandoning a sinking ship,” said Carter Brownlee, the spokerson for the Ontario Liberal Party.
