Ontario’s 30th lieutenant governor was officially installed in the Queen’s Park Legislative Chamber this morning. Madame Edith Dumont, who will succeed Elizabeth Dowdeswell, makes history as the first francophone to hold this office in the province’s history.

“On behalf of the people of Ontario, it is an honour to congratulate Edith Dumont on being installed as the 30th Lieutenant Governor of Ontario and the first ever Francophone Lieutenant Governor in our province’s history,” Premier Doug Ford said in a statement.

Recently, she has served as vice-president of partnerships, communities and international relations at the Université de l’Ontario français in Toronto.

Ford thanked Dumont for “accepting this important responsibility”, saying that he looks forward to working with her to build a brighter future for all Ontarians”.
