Toronto (Feb 1) – Toronto police is requesting the public’s assistance identifying two suspects wanted in multiple pickpocket style theft investigations.

Between January 16 and 20, 2024, numerous reports were made to police about wallets being stolen while people were attending restaurants and food courts in the downtown core.

According to police reports, the female suspect, usually wearing a loose shawl, would stand or sit beside the victim’s purse or jacket hanging over the back of a chair. Using the shawl for cover, she would then proceed to steal the victim’s wallet and then exit the area. Stolen credit and debit cards were then used to purchase gift cards and electronics.

Police describe the female suspect as of short stature, heavy build, wearing a loose shawl with beige and grey stripes, beige wool hat, and dark pants. The male suspect is described as 6’0″, medium build, wearing a black jacket, black pants, black hat, and a backpack.

The images of the two suspects (pictured above) were released by police in an attempt to identify them.

In a public alert notice, Toronto police advised the public to be aware of their surroundings and always keep their wallet or purse on their person.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-5200, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at www.222tips.com.
